Queen Camilla celebrated her birthday at work but showed off a lovely royal look.
The wife of King Charles turned 77 on July 17 and spent the day with the British monarch at the second State Opening of Parliament in London. Continuing a long-standing tradition, the royal dressed appropriately to match the formality of the event, just as Queen Camilla wore a white dress and the state tiara “George IV”, complete with many diamonds.
When she arrived at the Palace of Westminster, the Queen was dressed in a long-sleeved white dress with embroidery highlighted on the cuffs, skirt, and hem. The highlight of the royal ensemble was the George IV State Tiara, which she had only worn once before yesterday’s event.
The wife of King Charles debuted the historic jewel, also known as the diamond tiara for the first state opening of Parliament since the new monarch’s reign in November 2023. The accessory sparkles with 1333 diamonds and has a rich history. The royal diadem was made for the coronation of King George IV in 1820, and he, along with a large purple velvet hat, is what the monarch wore on his way to Westminster Abbey for his coronation ceremony over 200 years ago.
Since then, the diamond tiara has been worn by all British queens, whether reigning or consorts. The jewel was closely associated with Queen Elizabeth who wore it on her way to the coronation ceremony in 1953 and on the way to most State Openings of Parliament. The mother of King Charles is also depicted wearing the tiara on coins, notes, and Commonwealth stamps. It is distinguished by the design of four crosses alternated with four symbols representing the national emblems of England (rose), Ireland (shamrock), and Scotland (thistle).
Queen Camilla further embellished her most majestic birthday look with dangling diamond earrings and the Queen Elizabeth coronation necklace, which she inherited after her death. Additionally, the birthday girl wore appropriate silver shoes that matched her clutch of the same color.
King Charles also appeared suitably dressed for the opening of Parliament on July 17, where he arrived in his admiral fleet uniform, crown, and sword, then changed into the state parliamentary robes and the imperial state crown. The main ceremony marked the third time the monarch wore the royal crown, having worn it for the first time during his coronation in May 2023 and again at the Parliament’s opening in November of that year.
Last week was busy for the royal couple on July 15 and 16 in the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey, on the northwest coast of France to highlight the special and historical connection between the British areas and the Royal Family, which dates back centuries.
In April, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles resumes public visits and duties while continuing to receive treatment for cancer. The royal family announced his diagnosis in February.
